Luis Royo is a Spanish fantasy artist. The author of the covers of science fiction books, music albums, comics. Wanderer Award Winner 2002.



Royo was born in Ollala, Spain in 1954. He graduated from the School of Design in Zaragoza with a degree in interior design. At the same time, he took up painting, participating in professional exhibitions from the mid-70s. In 1981 Louis started working for Heavy Metal Magazine drawing comics. Since 1983 he has been working as an illustrator for book and magazine covers, moving around Europe and America. Royo's most famous works were depictions of naked women in fantastic surroundings, sometimes with weapons. This style makes him related to Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta. Royo's own work has influenced a number of contemporary artists, among them Victoria Frances.




Luis worked as an animator for the cartoon Heavy Metal, as well as a cover designer for the computer game Heavy metal f.a.k.k. 2.
