World of Tanks (from English - "World of Tanks"; abbr. WoT) is a real-time client massively multiplayer online game in the genre of an arcade tank simulator in the historical setting of World War II, developed by the Belarusian studio Wargaming.net. The developers position the game as a massively multiplayer online action game with elements of a role-playing game, shooter and strategy. The concept of World of Tanks is based on team tank battles in PvP mode. The game was released on August 12, 2010 and had only a Russian version. The release of the localized game World of Tanks in Europe and North America took place on April 12, 2011.

The game uses a free-to-play business model. Initially, only free download of the client and free entry into the game were declared, but in June 2013 it was announced that the strategy for all current and future games is "free-to-win" - the complete absence of any advantages in battle for paying players.
