A balloon is an aircraft (aerostat) that uses gas that is lighter than air to fly. It consists of a gas-filled shell and a basket or trailer cab attached to it. Unlike airships, balloons do not have engines for independent horizontal movement in the air. Depending on the filling, there are hot air balloons (balloons filled with heated air), charliers (filled with light gas - usually hydrogen or helium) and rosiers (aircraft using both gas and air, placed in separate shells).
